Welcome to the website of the Irish Council for Psychotherapy, the professional organisation which represents psychotherapists in Ireland.
The Irish Council for Psychotherapy is the national umbrella body for psychotherapy in Ireland, representing over 1,250 psychotherapists and represents five modality sections of psychotherapy as follows:
- Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
- Constructivist Psychotherapy
- Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy
- Couple and Family Therapy
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
The primary aim of the Irish Council for Psychotherapy is to serve clients, patients and psychotherapists by encouraging and maintaining the highest standards of practice.
Psychotherapists are trained to relate to and treat people who are distressed. We work to alleviate personal suffering and encourage change.
When people are seeking the services of a psychotherapist it is important that they know where to find a well-trained and experienced psychotherapist.
The Council maintains a register of psychotherapists to help people choose the proper and appropriate help. This register provides the names of professionals who have undergone in-depth training and who are committed to upholding the highest standards of professional conduct.
